Interesting coverage of a document repository system in SharePoint 2010 I recently implemented for a client based in Ireland.

MCITP Business Intelligence

Friday, October 21st, 2011

I’m very pleased to say that I recently passed the 70-448 and 70-452 Microsoft exams in Business Intelligence.

These were by far the hardest Microsoft exams I’ve done, not surprising really since SSAS is a huge subject on its own – when you throw in SSIS and SSRS as well, you end up with quite a lot of content to cover!

There’s a lot of crossover between MS’s BI offerings and SharePoint, so, as an MCPD in SharePoint 2010, this puts me in quite a good place.

More Firebrand fun

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

I’m booked in for some more Firebrand fun pain – this time in Business Intelligence in SQL Server. Firebrand is a unique way of getting certified fast – they’ll cram 6 months’ work in to a week… expect long days, no sleep, caffeine highs, and you’ll be a walking zombie by the end of it. But it’s effective.

MCPD SharePoint 2010

Sunday, November 21st, 2010

I’ve just spent the last week in absolute misery updating my SharePoint certifications. Firebrand training has always been hardcore, but this was the hardest yet! 7 days of intensive tuition and testing.

However, it was all worth it as I successfully fulfilled both commitments of the SharePoint 2010 MCPD (TS 70-573 and TS 70-576) and I’m officially up to date again. Feels good.

Time for a change!

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

After a lot of careful consideration, I’ve left Healthspan to broaden my horizons in search of something new. My time at Healthspan was excellent – I learnt a huge amount about technical project management, especially in the importance of implementing change in well-controlled ways. I’ve also gained some good knowledge in a lot of technical areas.

I’ve joined a specialist IT consultancy in the Channel Islands – C5 Alliance. I’m based in the Guernsey office with an emphasis on project management and oversight of most of the office’s activities. I’ll still be getting my hands dirty though – most likely with SharePoint!

Exciting times ahead.
